Kazak Language Campaign Falters

Kazak Language Campaign Falters

An attempt to reduce the use of Russian in Kazakstan appears to have failed after signatories to an open letter dissociated themselves from it.

The letter complained that the state language Kazak is not used enough in public life, and called for the removal of a constitution provision allowing Russian can be used as well as Kazak in official communications.

This audio programme, in Kazak, went out on Radio Azattyk, the Kazak service of RFE/RL, as part of IWPR project work funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
