Kano: Curfew extended as political protest dovetail to looting

The Kano Police Command has said that the curfew imposed on the city will now be from 4:00pm to 6:00am instead of the earlier 6:00pm to 6:00am.

Spokesperson for the Command, Musa Majia said the extension was meant to stop criminals from using political protest as a ploy to loot stores.

Fresh clashes were reported in the mainly business area of Sabon Gari. The area is populated by Nigerians of diverse background.

The clashes were said to have resulted from attempts by some people to frighten business owners, in order to loot their properties. There was panic when black smoke filled the area.

Normalcy has however returned to other parts of the Kano metropolis but the Nigerian Election News Report Correspondent said the situation remained tense.
