Ja'afari: Government Will Act as Care-Taker

Al-Mashriq is published daily by Al-Mashriq Institution for Media and Cultural Investments.

Prime minister Ibrahim al-Ja'afari said his government will become a care-taking body after the parliamentary elections (on December 15.) He emphasized protecting the democratic process and strengthening the principles of law. Ja'afari described the peaceful transfer of power as being part of the political process and called on Iraqis to respect election results regardless if their slates win or lose. He said conducting three elections in one year is a great feat that would be considered an accomplishment even in stabilised countries.
