MPs have defended their August break, saying every parliament in the world enjoys a summer recess. Safiya al-Suhail, a member of Iraqi National Bloc, believes many deputies will use the time off productively, saying they will be meeting with constituents. "They have to meet people to define their problems," al-Suhail said. Ordinary Iraqis aren’t convinced, however, questioning if parliamentarians should go on holiday at all in the midst of the current security, economic and political crisis.
