INEC Problems Wider Than Just Non-arrival of Voting Materials

Polling officials have said that the suspension of Saturday’s election was not just due to a shortage of voting material but was caused by a total logistics failure.

The officials, members of the National Youth Service Corps, told our correspondent that the suspension of the National Assembly elections on Saturday, was due to more than just a lack of voting materials.

The officers who declined to identify themselves, said that the Resident Electoral Commissioners, should share the blame.

The Corps members claimed that poor planning meant that their accommodation was poor and transport to the polling centres frequently non-existent.

In Alimosho, for example, in Lagos State, Corps members said they had to sleep in a school classroom, with no proper sleeping facilities provided.

Some NYSC members also told our correspondent that some of the money owed to them from the earlier registration exercise had not been paid.
