Security forces in Kapisa province yesterday detained a commander of the Hizb-i-Islami faction while he was carrying explosives and arms. Hezb-e-Islami is led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, designated a terrorist by the United States government. Commander Agha Jan Mohammadi was head of the Hizb-i-Islami branch in the Kohestan district and is believed to have been involved in terrorist acts such as rocket attacks on Bagram airbase, roadside bombings and distributing night letters, a security source told the state-run Bakhtar News Agency. The source added that Mohammadi’s most recent mission was to assassinate government officials in Kapisa, a plot that was foiled with his arrest.
