The acting chief of the government’s anti-corruption department says that about 500,000 US dollars has been embezzled from the Afghan education ministry. Anti-corruption officials have also discovered 1,000 forged documents at the ministry. Deputy education minister Mohammad Seddiq Patman did not deny the existence of forged documents, but insisted the ministry has taken tough measures and dozens of individuals have been handed over to the attorney general’s office. The anti-corruption chief said that checks on financial abuses in other government departments was continuing.
