Fuel Prices to Rise

Al-Mada is issued daily by Al-Mada Institute for Media, Culture, and Arts.

Oil minister Husein al-Shahrestani says fuel prices will rise to 400 Iraqi dinars a litre by February 1, with the increase to be approved by the cabinet before it comes into force. Shahrestani said the measure was being introduced because of pressure from the International Monetary Fund to abolish all petroleum-product subsidies so as to reduce Iraq’s 55 million US dollar debt.
