Forgery allegation lands female legislator in jail

For failing to appear in court on charges of certificate forgery, a female legislator has been jailed in Kaduna State.

Chief Magistrate Martins Ishaya ordered that Esther Abba be kept in jail till next Wednesday when the case resumes.

Abba represents Zangon Kataf Constituency in the state assembly and was just re-elected.

Abba risks losing the seat, if found guilty of forging her educational certificates.

According to Nigeria’s electoral law, a candidate must have a minimum of high school certificate to qualify for assembly election.
