Football 'gains' from post election violence

The recent post-election violence in the northern region of Nigeria conferred an unexpected advantage on Nigerian football.

Kaduna United football club were given a bye into the African Confederation Cup play-offs at the expense of the Tunisian club side Etiole Sahel.

Trouble began for the disqualified Etiole Sahel when they failed to show up in Kaduna for their game against Kaduna United citing issues of safety in the wake of the violence that engulfed the north during the days preceding the fixture.

The decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) means Kaduna United will now face one of the eight African Champions League third round losers over two legs in the group phase of the competition.
