Eurasian Summit to Lay Out Energy Policy

Friday, 27 April, 2007
The tenth Eurasian economic summit will be held in Istanbul on May 2-4 to discuss energy policy in Central Asia, Russia, the Middle East and Europe, paying special attention to Turkey’s role as a transit country linking oil and gas producers with European markets.

All five Central Asian countries are taking part, and will use the talks to discuss how to open up oil reserves in the Caspian Sea, and ways of enhancing cooperation between European and Asian countries to get large-scale oil and gas extraction and transportation projects off the ground.
