A suicide bombing attack on Hazrat Sibghatullah Mujaddidi, chairman of the Meshrano Jirga, upper house of parliament, and the head of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission, has shocked the Afghan people. This time the terrorists targeted a man who has always tried to bring peace and stability to this country. Mujaddidi is a renowned jihadi leader and a well-known politician who has always supported the Afghan nation. Mujaddidi was completely neutral during the factional war of the [early] Nineties. He called the fighting a conspiracy by foreigners, sought to save the country from the chaos. A large number of the government’s armed opponents have laid down their arms and joined the Afghan government since Mujaddidi was appointed head of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission by President Hamed Karzai.

The Meshrano Jirga is performing its duties successfully under his chairmanship. All this may have provided a motive for the terrorists to carry out a suicide attack against him. Fortunately, he survived the attack unhurt, and at a press conference he assured the nation that he would continued to serve it. The attack on Mujaddidi was definitely part of a conspiracy to eliminate our national leaders which has long been plotted by our enemies. We vehemently denounce the attack on Mujaddidi and we state once again that no one, and no attack, can break the commitment of our national leaders.
