Drilling began (Sunday) in TaqTaq, south of Erbil, on the second oil well (in Iraqi Kurdistan.) Bernard Hard, chief manager of the project, discussed the importance of the project for the region. Dilshad Mohammad, head of the private projects commission, said that by the end of 2006 three wells will be drilled producing at least 20,000 barrels of oil daily and their output will increase to 200,000 barrels daily in the future. The project is implemented by Genic Energy, a Turkish Company, and Adax Company, a Swiss company. The oil reserve in TaqTaq is estimated to be 1.2 billion barrels.
