A pro-government website has criticised the recent cabinet reshuffle, which saw the appointment of six new ministers and the creation of a ministry for environmental affairs.

Hazem Khoder wrote in Syria Tomorrow on April 26, that the reshuffle disappointed observers and ordinary Syrians, who had been waiting expectantly for change for months.

On April 23, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad issued a series of decrees appointing new ministers for internal affairs, justice, local government, health and presidential affairs.

Khoder said this was not what people were expecting – they had thought the ministers in charge of the economy would be replaced, given the recent hike in prices and a number of unsound economic decisions.

He called on official media to explain why some ministers kept their positions while others were sacked.
