Director General says the call for scrapping of NYSC is misplaced

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga has dismissed calls by some Nigerians that the scheme should be scrappedor the posting of corps members be strictly regional.

The calls were in reaction to the murder of ten corps members in Bauchi State during the post election violence that trailed the April 2011 presidential election. Tsiga told newsmen that Nigerians should focus on bringing the murderers of the youth corps members to justice.

While assuring the families of the murdered corps members that all benefits due to them from the Independent National Electoral Commission, the NYSC, and the five million naira promised them by President Goodluck Jonathan would be paid, Tsiga called on all agencies responsible for ensuring security in the country to live up to their responsibilities.

The NYSC boss said not all corps members in Bauchi State, but only those in the affected trouble areas, would be reposted.
