A survey has found that 99 per cent of Syrians believe there is corruption in their government, according to a February 20 report in the government-owned Thawra newspaper.

Of the survey group of 452 respondents, all but two of those questioned said the administration was corrupt, and 54 per cent said there was massive corruption in government. Nearly half – 46 per cent – believed high-ranking officials were the most corrupt of all.

Those surveyed said they believed the judiciary to be the most corrupt branch of government, followed by the traffic police, municipality officials and the justice police.

The vast majority – 403 of the survey group – said they did not believe they could get a government document approved without having to pay a bribe.
