On July 24, President Kurmanbek Bakiev removed Kamil Sultanov as Kyrgyzstan’s ambassador to China and replaced him with Deputy Foreign Minister Kadyrbek Sarbaev.

Sarbaev graduated in Chinese studies from the State University for Far Eastern Studies, going on to work as secretary and then advisor at the Kyrgyz embassy in China during the Nineties. He was Kyrgyzstan’s national coordinator for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in 2004-05 and was appointed deputy minister of foreign affairs in April 2005.
