Chalabi Reveals the Truth

Al-Mutamar is issued daily by the Iraqi National Congress.

Deputy prime minister and Iraqi National Congress leader Ahmed al-Chalabi revealed dangerous documents showing corruption in the defence ministry during former prime minister Ayad Allawi's government. He revealed that 1.13 billion dollars was squandered. Chalabi added that he is not accusing any individual but he wants to present the truth to the Iraqi people about what happened in the defence ministry during Allawi’s government. He accused the national assembly of failing to include this issue on its agenda and discuss it in detail. He maintained that the lost money is enough to build 110 residential units, 11,000 schools, and 500 hospitals. He deeply thanked the audit board, the integrity commission, the central bank, and the high judiciary board for following up this important and dangerous issue. (Chalabi and Allawi are leading slates in next week's parliamentary elections.)
