The Roman Catholic archbishop of Aleppo, Jean-Clement Jeanbart, has strongly condemned caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad that were published in some western newspapers, SANA reported on March 11.

"This is an immoral act designed to spread chaos and disorder. Its goal is to increase hatred and disturbance, and it strays far from dialogue, tolerance and coexistence," Jeanbart said in a lecture in Abu Dhabi.

"This offence counters the [work of] advocates striving for dialogue and human coexistence," he said.

In February, 17 Danish newspapers reprinted a cartoon depicting the Prophet Mohammed which caused outrage in the Muslim world when it was originally published in 2005.
