Berdymuhammedov to Meet US Secretary of State

Turkmen president Gurbanguly Berdymuhammedov will meet US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for the first time when he attends next week’s United Nations General Assembly session in New York.

They will discuss American companies already operating in Turkmenistan, further investment in oil and gas, possible deals to transport energy to Europe bypassing Russia, and US assistance in the areas of economic management, security, education and healthcare.

Senior State Department officials and US Congress representatives have visited Ashgabat to lay the groundwork for the talks.
