A ministry of electricity source said power cuts have increased because the Beiji station (the main station supplying fuel in Iraq) shut down after its staff was targeted by gunmen and their families had to flee. He said there is a fuel shortage because a gas pipeline feeding the station from Kirkuk was damaged and 150 kilowatts of electricity were lost. The Beiji pipeline feeds the two main power stations, Doora (which supplies electricity for Baghdad) and Taji (which supplies electricity for the north and other regions.) He said rehabilitation and maintenance of the power stations will begin in preparation for summer.
