Construction of a bridge over the Amu Darya river to link Afghanistan to Tajikistan will be completed by July 2006, said a spokesman for the US-led Coalition forces. Colonel James Yonts told a press conference in Kabul that the design team and construction work was being led by the United States, which was putting up 35 million US dollars for the 637-metre structure. The bridge is expected to help boost the Afghan economy and make life easier for traders.
