Allawi Denies Kurdish Separist Intent

Al-Sabah al-Jadeed is an independent daily paper.

Former Iraqi prime minister Ayad Allawi has said the regional government of Iraqi Kurdistan is not pursuing a separatist path, and said recent comment on the subject was inaccurate. His remarks followed an exchange in which Iraqi oil minister, Hussein al-Shahristani said his ministry had not been made aware of oil contracts signed by the Kurdistan government. The region’s prime minister, Nechiravan Barzani, retorted that Kurdistan would consider “other options” if central government did not behave according to the Iraqi constitution.
