Aleppo to Focus on Development

Sustainable development and modernisation will be top priorities for the city of Aleppo over the next few years, according to the coordinator of a municipal modernisation programme.

Mazen Samman, coordinator of the European Commission-sponsored programme, made the remarks as the second forum on the city’s development got under way on March 16, the government-backed Syria Times reported.

The city council is to draw up an action plan to modernise Aleppo through 2010. The meeting touched on economic development, construction regulations, air pollution, water, and human waste management.‏
