Ahmed Zaweti, the head of al-Jazeera's office in Erbil, was assaulted by administrative members of Erbil stadium and several police and security forces while he covered a football match between Erbil and Najaf on May 26. In a piece about the incident that Zaweti sent to Awene exclusively, he said, "I didn't use the opportunity to exaggerate the incident. If I did, however, I would have become more famous and al-Jazeera would have financially rewarded me. But I didn't report it because I did not want to hurt the reputation of Kurds and the Kurdistan region." Zaweti accused a police captain of beating him. Erbil security's media department said Zaweti can request an investigation.
