A woman was wounded when US-led Coalition forces opened fire at her home in the Shindand district of the western province of Herat, Afghan officials said on March 8. District chief Abdul Salam Rahimi said Coalition forces accompanied by Afghan National Army troops stormed a house in the Zir Koh area overnight, injuring the woman. Quoting Coalition forces based at Shindand airport, Rahimi said the soldiers were carrying out an operation to hunt down militants when a dog attacked them. The troops opened fire, and this may have caused the injury, he said.
