While the world community is disarming illegal armed groups around the country, the Afghan government is trying to reactivate militias in border areas. Assadullah Wafa, governor of the eastern province of Kunar, said that the process of establishing militias has started in the south-eastern province of Paktia. According to Wafa, these militias will receive some wages. The communist regimes [of the Eighties] set up similar tribal militias - which just caused more insurgency and ultimately the collapse of the regime.
