Abdul Rahman, an Afghan who was on trial for converting to Christianity, was freed on March 28, according to deputy attorney-general Mohammad Eshaq Alako Binawa. A United Nations spokesperson in Afghanistan said that Abdul Rahman had requested asylum abroad. Abdul Rahman, 41, was facing the death penalty for apostasy under Islamic law.
