THE ROLE

The IWPR Latin America office is looking for website design and development specialists to create a complete brand style guide and a custom website (using no-code platforms).

The Consultant will be responsible for creating a full brand style guide, including new logo and logo usage, color palette, typography and its usage, as well as guidelines for imagery and grid and layout requirements. Responsible for designing a visually appealing and user-friendly custom website (using no-code platforms like Wix, WordPress, Squarespace, etc.) that highlights our work supporting investigative journalism in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Consultant must have the ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary and multicultural team to understand their requirements and preferences and make design and development decisions accordingly.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in editorial design. You will work closely with our team to develop specifications and adjust as needed until the website launch, as well as create the corresponding documentation to maintain the website afterwards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create a custom brand style guide for a new project, including logo and logo usage, color palette, typography and its usage, as well as guidelines for imagery, iconography and photography (such as image selection, editing, and treatment), and grid and layout requirement
  • Meet with IWPR staff to understand needs and preferences, and translate them into design concepts and specification
  • Use wireframing tools and user-interface techniques to create prototypes and high-fidelity designs;
  • Design a visually appealing and user-friendly custom website using no-code platforms (e.g., Wix, WordPress, Squarespace) that aligns with our project’s brand identity and meets our programmatic goals
  • Develop a responsive and mobile-friendly website that ensures a seamless user experience across various devices and browsers
    Implement website features and functionalities, such as:
    • Content management system (CMS) for bilingual content (Spanish/English)
    • Contact forms and email marketing integration
    • Social media integration
    • SEO optimization
    • Security and privacy protocols (SSL)

In collaboration with IWPR staff, create and present detailed documentation to ensure website security, scalability, and maintainability.

EDUCATION

Graphic Design, Web Design, Front-End Web Development, Communications and similar areas.

EXPERIENCE

At least four years of experience in web development and design, with a successful track record creating visually appealing and user-friendly websites, particularly using no-code platforms like Wix, Squarespace or similar. The candidate must provide a portfolio showcasing their work. A solid understanding of web design principles, user experience (UX), user interface (UI), and information architecture is required, as well as proficiency in HTML and CSS. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and analytics platforms is required.

  • Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work and adapt to diverse cultures
  • Experience using security protocols for restrictive environments (desirable)
  • Familiarity with editorial design and/or experience working with news organizations (desirable)
  • Familiarity with JavaScript (desirable)
