The mayor of Khujand, the main city in northern Tajikistan, is accused of ordering the destruction of sheds, garages and outhouses as part of an urban regeneration scheme. Owners say they have legal documentation proving their right to the buildings, but the mayor’s office insists the structures were put up without any planning application on land belonging to others’, and must therefore come down.

The audio programme, in Russian and Tajik, went out on national radio stations in Tajikistan, as part of IWPR project work funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
