CyberArabs, Issue 4 (Arabic)

This is the fourth issue of Cyber Arabs, a magazine dealing with digital security issues in the Arab world. The focus of this issue is on using social media, especially Facebook. In the last couple of years, social media networks have become important communication tools for many people in the Arab world. Especially after the start of the Arab spring, people took to social media websites like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to make their voices heard or to listen to others.

However, social media also have downsides. It should not be forgotten that Facebook and others are commercial companies that are mainly interested in revenue, not your security. Cyber Arabs has received many stories of people getting into trouble because of breaches of the policies of Facebook, Twitter or YouTube.

In this Cyber Arabs issue, we give you an overview of the most important things to be aware of when using social media. We have included a full guide to changing your security settings on Facebook and share some of the worst-case-scenario stories we have received via our website. We discuss tools for keeping your internet use secure and encrypting your files.
