Persons With Disability Ask For Better Voting Conditions
Ahead of Saturday’s Presidential elections, persons living with disability have again demanded for suitable voting conditions and facilities.
They said the difficulties faced by some of them during last Saturday’s National Assembly election need to be corrected for subsequent voting.
Secretary of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disability, Danderson Nwankpa-Hart said there should be separate queues for their members. He said this is because some disabled people cannot stand un-aided - or for long.
Nwankpa-Hart also said the deaf and the dumb will need sign-language interpreters at every polling unit to avoid mistakes on their ballot paper.
He added that the blind will require brailed ballot papers in order to protect their privacy during voting.
Nwankpa-Hart added that there will be no problem meeting the demands if the President Goodluck Jonathan urgently signs the disability bill into law.
Few million Nigerians are estimated to be living with one form of disability or the other.
