Election violence suspects detained in Ekiti and Ondo

In Akure, Ondo state, Fifty two people have been arrested and charged with the unlawful possession of firearms during last Saturday’s botched National Assembly elections.

The suspects were arrested in Owo, Igbokoda, Ile-Oluji and Ikare-Akoko.

The state prosecutor, Inspector Isah Atanegbe, asked for the suspects to be detained in custody to enable him to prepare the case against them.

The magistrate, Anthony Akinrinsola, agreed and adjourned the case until May the 5th.

Meanwhile in Ekiti State, eight people suspected of planning to disrupt last Saturday’s elections.

The police said the suspects were caught in Iworoko, a suburb of Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, with a range of weapons, including axes, pistols and live cartridges.

Charges against them include conspiracy, illegal possession of arms and threatening the peace. They were remanded in custody until April the 13th.
