Consultant Trainer: Audio-visual Journalism, Mexico (Remote)

SUMMARY

The Trainer will be responsible for training journalists in the creation and improvement of audio-visual products adapted to digital platforms. The ideal candidate must have the ability to perform diagnostics, teach advanced vertical video production techniques, and provide up-to-date workshops on the latest trends and tools on digital platforms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Train journalists from Latin America in conceptualizing, scripting, production, editing, and disseminating audio-visual journalistic products;
  • Provide advice for improving products and repackaging content into reel and horizontal video formats;
  • With the support of IWPR, design and implement a community-building plan and adaptation of journalistic content to digital platforms. The plan should include diagnosis, planning, execution, review, and dissemination of pieces, among other elements;
  • Offer personalized advice and feedback to enhance the quality of audio-visual products and the effectiveness of strategies on digital platforms;
  • Schedule consulting and/or training sessions with media outlets to execute the program work plan based on each beneficiary's local context and specific conditions;
  • Design and conduct interactive and practical workshops on updates and trends in digital platforms, ensuring that journalists are informed about the latest tools and strategies to maximize the impact of their videos;
  • Create and present detailed reports on the progress and outcomes of the training, identifying areas for improvement and successes achieved.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Communication, Journalism, Audio-visual Production, or a related field;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in vertical video production, preferably with prior experience in training journalists or in a media environment;
  • In-depth knowledge of vertical video filming and editing techniques, as well as experience with relevant tools and software for creating content for digital platforms;
  • Experience with major digital platforms and social media, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, with an understanding of their specific requirements for vertical video;
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present technical information clearly and accessibly to a diverse audience;
  • Ability to adapt to the specific needs and contexts of journalists and media organizations, providing personalized and effective solutions;
  • Creativity in content production and a willingness to stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in the digital space;
  • Extensive knowledge of the digital media environment in Latin America and the Caribbean;
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly to different audiences;
  • Bilingual Spanish/English (desirable);
  • Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work and adapt to diverse cultures;
  • Professional ethics and journalistic ethics.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Availability and flexibility to work with different time zones and at different times of the week;
  • Experience using security protocols for restrictive environments;
  • Familiarity with media monetization, fundraising and audience development.
