Marwan Maalouf is a human rights lawyer focusing on the rule of law and political reforms in the Middle East and North Africa. Prior to joining IWPR as head of its Tunisia Program, Marwan oversaw programs on human rights and democracy promotion in Syria, Tunisia, and Algeria for the Washington based Freedom House. In 2005, Marwan played a key role as a student movement leader and president of the Law School Student Body during mass protests in Lebanon which ended 30 years of Syrian occupation. Marwan holds a law degree from the Université Saint Joseph and a LL.M. in International Legal Studies from Georgetown University Law Center. His writing on the aftermath of the 2011 Tunisian revolution has featured in various publications including the Christian Science Monitor and New York Post.
