The Controller manages the day-to-day accounting and administration operations. The Controller will be responsible for preparing financial statements, financial analysis, the annual operating budget of IWPR US, and coordinating the annual A-133 audit. The Controller will work with the Program Development team in preparing proposal budgets and narratives. The Controller ensures the programs are in financial compliance.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, grant accounting and administration.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining financial policies and procedures.
  • Working with the HR department to ensure that employment practices and procedures are followed in the US Office in line with IWPR global policies on recruitment, training and performance review etc.
  • Responsible for monitoring and forecasting cash requirements.
  • Responsible for month-end closing and preparing monthly financial statements.
  • Responsible for calculating and monitoring the IWPR-US’s indirect cost rate.
  • Responsible for preparing IWPR-US’s annual operating budget.
  • Review and approve accounts payable, wire transfers and payroll.
  • Oversee procurement and staff travel arrangements.
  • Oversee the administration of the US office
  • Ensure that IWPR-US staff are trained regarding IWPR’s financial policies and procedures.
  • Conduct assessment and training visits to program sites.
  • Work directly with program staff in monitoring field finances and program budgets.
  • Ensure proper close-out of grants.
  • Plan and coordinate the annual A-133 audit.
  • Assist in preparing proposal budgets and narratives.


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • 8 – 10 years progressive non-profit accounting experience
  • At least five years direct experience with international non-profit financial management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OMB circulars A-122 and A-110
  • Demonstrated experience of managing federal awards from USAID and DOS
  • Human resources and administration experience
  • Proven leadership and communication skills
  • 20 – 25% international travel
