Commendation for Politicians Conceding Defeat

Commendation for Politicians Conceding Defeat

Politicians who lost last Saturday’s National Assembly elections and have quickly accepted defeat have been commended.

Among leading politicians who have congratulated their victorious opponents are the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole and the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

General Secretary of the National Union of Textiles, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, Comrade Issa Aremu said the attitude of the candidates is worthy of emulation by other politicians.

Aremu added that it should become a new mantra for all contestants in subsequent elections noting that those who accept legitimate defeat in an election are the true winners.

Aremu said what should be uppermost in the mind of politicians is the building, maintenance and development of our democratic institutions and processes toward true national development and greatness.

The Unionist particularly saluted the courage of Hon. Bankole for saying that the contest he lost was not a life and death duel.
