In a visit to the Kurdish parliament, Iraqi deputy prime minister (and Kurdish leader) Barham Ahmed Saleh said that Kirkuk's future is an important issue that needs to be solved. He said that Kurdish representatives in the city need to have good relations with Turkman and indigineous Arabs (as opposed to Arabs whom the Ba'thist government moved into the city beginning in the 1970s.) Saleh also met with Nicheeravan Barzani, head of the Kurdistan Regional Government, and some Kurdish cabinet ministers. In a press conference, he said the leaders are trying to create a legal framework for the Kurdistan Regional Government so that the Iraqi government can cooperate with the Kurdistan Regional Government.
