Isomidin Ahmedjanov

I was born in 1987 in Osh, the centre of the region of the same name in southern Kyrgyzstan. My father was a police officer and my mother a postal worker. Their job took them to Russia and I spent my childhood shuttling between Kyrgyzstan and various regions in the Russian Far East - Yakutia, Sakhalin and Primorie reigon.

I was born in 1985 in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Both my parents are engineers by occupation which is different from the route I chose, first for my education and then for my profession.

I was born in the Shugnansky district of the Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region of Tajikistan. I left secondary school in 1989 and entered the journalism faculty of the Tajik State University. I graduated in 1995, one year later than I was supposed to because of the civil war that ran from 1992 to 1997.

I was born in the city of Shymkent in southern Kazakstan in 1989 and grew up there. After secondary school, I moved to Almaty, the cultural capital of the country, and it was there that I got actively involved in journalism. I studied journalism at the Kazak National University.

Artur Nigmetov

I was born in 1985 and grew up in the village of Jalpaktal, in western Kazakstan region. My parents are teachers. I also have a younger brother. After graduating from school, I studied history and political science at the West Kazakstan State University. This was followed by a master’s degree at the Moscow School of Political Studies.

I joined IWPR in September 2011 as editor for Kyrgyzstan, after some years as a trainee and contributing author. I am also continuing my studies at the Bishkek Humanities University.

Sanat Urnaliev

I was born in 1984 in the Kazak village of Aktau, in western Kazakstan. My mother is a teacher and my father has worked all his life as a driver.

Salimakhon Vahobzade

I was born in the Tajik capital Dushanbe, one of four children, and we lived in the town of Nurek, not far from the city. My mother was a primary school teacher and my father worked for the interior ministry but is now retired.
