The International Criminal Court’s fifth investigation focuses on the months of bloodshed that followed a disputed presidential election in Kenya in December 2007. The ICC prosecutor requested charges against six senior individuals accused of orchestrating the violence. They were divided into two cases, one against William Ruto, Henry Kosgey and Joshua Arap Sang of the Orange Democratic Movement; and the other against Francis Muthaura, Uhuru Kenyatta and Mohammed Hussein Ali of the Party of National Unity. At a hearing on January 23, 2012, judges ruled that four of the six should stand trial – Ruto, Arap Sang, Muthaura and Kenyatta.
